Interactive session

When an interactive session starts, one of the dictionaries is set as current and you are presented a prompt, which by default shows you current dictionary and its akas if any.

Basically, you just type in words to be looked up in the current dictionary.

However, occasionally you want to perform other actions, e. g. to change the current dictionary. To do so, you use commands. To execute a command, type in one or more spaces, the name of the command and its arguments, if any. Note that the space(s) preceding the command name makes it clear to SCDICT that you are typing in a command and not a word to look up.

Command reference

Arguments are put in angular brackets, and stars mean that there can be any number of arguments (in particular, no arguments).

You can refer to dictionaries by names, by nicks (defined in scdictrc.lisp), or by akas (if any in the current group; groups and akas are defined in scdictrc.lisp). You can refer to groups by names.

help <cmds>*
h <cmds>*
? <cmds>*

Help for the specified commands. If no command specified, help for all the commands.

d <dictionary>

Change current dictionary to <dictionary>.

g <group>

Change current group to <dictionary>.

ld

List the dictionaries in the current group.

lg

List all the groups.

log

Log the last lookup into ~/.scdict/log. This is useful if you discover an error in your index and want to fix it up later.

info <dictionary>*

Information about specified dictionaries.

show w

Show no warranty details.

show c

Show conditions of use.
