Many thanks for the info, Scott. Really!
I think I speak for all of us at UQM team saying that most likely none of us
can afford to buy the trademark. I am wondering, however, if TFB would be
willing to attempt it. I would not want to see it fall into the hands of
some evil publishing giant (cue doom music here).

suggests that Atari is nearing bankruptcy.  Should that occur, there might
be an opportunity for someone to buy the SC2 trademark from the bankruptcy
auction.
