Does there already exist an SBO term to represent DNA region and RNA region?
Biopax contains physical entities that describes DNA region and RNA region within a pathway model.
More information of how these two terms are used in biopax can be found in the Biopax Level 3, Version 1 Specification Document. This document can be found here:
http://www.biopax.org/release/biopax-level3-documentation.pdf
Specifically, discussion of DNA region is found on page 50 of the document and RNA region is found on page 52 of the document.
If these two terms are not currently supported, it would be nice to have SBO terms for DNA region and RNA region.

Hi Tramy,
Thanks for your query. There is a branch of SBO that contains some terms that may be of use, specifically child terms under: identifiers.org/biomodels.sbo/SBO:0000404
(SBO:0000335 - gene coding region, SBO:0000278 - mRNA, SBO:0000334 (and children) - various non-coding RNA entities).
Please take a look to see if any of those are suitable. If not, feel free to let me know and we can take it from there.
cheers,
Nick
Hi,
Thanks for your email. I just looked at the BioPAX specification, and perhaps you could use the terms under material entity?
SBO:0000246 - information macromolecule
-SBO:0000251 - deoxyribonucleic acid
-SBO:0000252 - polypeptide chain
-SBO:0000250 - ribonucleic acid
Does that help?
cheers,
Nick
