It helps provider writers understand the process, it serves as a test case and - most important - increases the value of Pegasus for Linux Distributors. If you want to have more functionaly - BTW, thanks for your praise of 'fsvol' - you can always substitute one of these base providers with something more complicated derived from NPI (by changing the Provider Registration you can do that even at runtime).
