I've compiled SBCL 1.0.16 (plus docs) on a x86_64 linux box successfully
with 3 expected failures. I want to contribute this as a binary package
by cropping unnecessary files. Is there any documented procedure I can
follow to make binary packages?

Maybe, I asked a little bit early. Xach pointed me
binary-distribution.sh script. (Thanks!) I've compiled sbcl-1.0.16 from
sources using sbcl-1.0.12-x86-64-linux-binary package. After running
tests, there appeared 3 expected failures:

//apparent success (reached end of run-tests.sh normally)

I've uploaded the produced binary file to web. I will be appreciated
if developers would publish it in SBCL Download page.
