Trying to compile 0.8.0 using the 0.8.0.24 binary drop gives: ; compiling file "/var/tmp/portage/sbcl-0.8.0/work/sbcl-0.8.0/src/code/list.lisp" (written 21 APR 2003 01:40:45 PM): ... ; recognizing DEFUN NRECONC ; compiling top level form: ; compiling top level form: debugger invoked on condition of type SIMPLE-ERROR: unknown type specifier: TYPE-SPECIFIER Suggestions welcome. I could put up a complete transcript, but the rest appears okay from cursory visual inspection. Karl T |

This is a known bug in old versions of SBCL. Post-0.8.0 perform more checks and discover more bugs. I'm sure your case is not the only block. > Suggestions welcome. I could try to compose a minimal set of patches for 0.8.0 to make it compilable under recent SBCL, but... it will not be 0.8.0 anymore, will it? -- Regards, Alexey Dejneka "Alas, the spheres of truth are less transparent than those of illusion." -- L.E.J. This month I am having unusual difficulty providing people with something which can bootstrap itself. (first the missing file in 0.8.0 binary distribution which motivated me to provide the 0.8.0.24 snapshot, then this gotcha) I could try to fix it again by releasing another snapshot, but since we'll probably release 0.8.1 in about a week, I think I'll just wait for that. In case it's not clear from the above, Karl, if you want to rebuild SBCL in the meantime, you be able to use the 0.8.0.24 binary as host and source obtained from CVS as described on <http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=1373> (That really should work, because it's what I tested -- admittedly not with current CVS sources, but with sources from around the time of the 0.8.0.24 snapshot -- when I put together the 0.8.0.24 snapshot.)
