Whoops! It seems a bit of diagnostic code got left in the source. If you
want to get rid of it, it's in module net.sf.saxon.functions.Id.
More worryingly, this means my test suite doesn't execute this path.
I'll look into that. (This doesn't actually mean that it doesn't call
the id() function, of course, it just means it always uses the iterate()
method to evaluate it, rather than the evaluate() method. The latter is
typically used if you assign the result of the function to a variable.).

The spec isn't stable yet, so most people probably don't want to take
the risk of shipping an implementation. I expect a few people are
working on implementations behind the scenes, but they haven=92t said so
