Saxon 7.6.5 is available at http://saxon.sf.net/
As the version number suggests, this is more than just a maintenance
release in that it includes some functionality and performance
improvements. It's mainly concerned with fixing teething troubles in the
XQuery implementation, but there are some changes on the XSLT side too,
in particular a rewrite of xsl:for-each-group that takes it up to the
latest spec level and incorporates some performance improvements.
I've done some performance tests using the Sarvega benchmark and 7.6.5
appears to be running about 20-30% faster than 6.5.2 on average. I was
actually slightly disappointed by this because I know that some
stylesheets are running at 3-4 times the speed. Probably these are the
ones that I have focused on in making optimizations! I'm always
interested to know if you have any stylesheets where Saxon is performing
unusually badly - one can only tune performance by trying it on plenty
of real-world examples.
I'm going to stop using the saxon-announce list to announce new
releases, as I suspect people are getting them more than once. You can
ask SourceForge to send you an announcement automatically when new
releases appear by clicking on the relevant "monitor" button at
I shall be at W3C meetings next week and on holiday for a couple of
weeks after that, so don't be concerned if there's no response to any
messages. Please use the saxon-help list to raise any questions, and try
to help each other when you can!
