Also, I think you have to generate it as <br/> - XHTML is case-sensitive, unlike HTML.

To whom it may concern,

we noticed that class "net.sf.saxon.event.XHTMLEmitter" does not output empty XHTML elements according to the HTML compatability guidelines for "empty elements" in the W3C XHTML 1.0 specification at "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/#guidelines"

For example, XHTMLEmitter outputs an empty line "break" tag as <BR></BR>, when it should be outputting <BR />.

This issue was breaking the XHTML rendering in some web browsers.

Has this issue already been raised ?

We picked up this in Saxon Home Edition (HE) 9.2.0.3 and it is still an issue in Saxon HE 9.2.1.2. Unfortunately, the source for Saxon HE 9.2.1.5 is not yet available for download from Source Forge.

I have attached our solution to this issue.

Please review this issue, the attached sample solution and advise if this issue will be classified as a bug and the time frame for resolving it.
