I tried the xml method and right away my browser choked on it's first empty <textarea/>  I've got to get the xhtml method working... and I think I'm just going to have to add the xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" attribute in a lot of places..
Why not add it on the xsl:stylesheet element?
That was one of the very first things I attempted, long before posting to the list.  The output I received was just plain wrong  (like something was broken in my logic)...  I assumed at that point that setting xmlns="X" in the xsl:stylesheet element was having an affect on all of my xpath selects.
