I think the "correct" way to do this is to compile/load/run
an XPath or XQuery expression of the form "deep-equal($x, $y)", supplying the
values of $x and $y as run-time parameters.
In principle you can make a direct call on the static
method net.sf.saxon.functions.DeepEqual.deepEquals() with appropriate
