[Savant-discuss] Mailing list change-over

	As mentioned in an earlier email message, this mailing list will
be moved off of the eGroups system and onto the SourceForge system over
the course of the next 24 hours.  The reasons for doing this are many, but
the primary reasons are:

1. eGroups continues to change ownership every 6 months or so, and
experiences technical problems each time.

2. It appears that despite claims to the contrary, eGroups provides the
email addresses of its members to organizations engaging in unsolicited
bulk email ("spam").

3. eGroups experiences serious message-lag on occasion.  Messages that are
mailed by list members sometimes take several days to be distributed to
the list.

4. The addition of a 3rd party advertisement to the bottom of each email
message sent out to members of the group.

	The SourceForge system has none of these problems, and should
provide a stable base for the Savant mailing list.  Over the next few
weeks, the Savant website will be moved to their high-speed web servers
and will be accessible by a shorter and easier to remember URL.

	As soon as your address is moved from the eGroups list to the
SourceForge list, you will receive an email with information about the new
list (how to post, change your status, unsubscribe, etc).  Your
preferences will be preserved in the move to the new list - if you
currently receive a message digest or read messages on the web instead of
receiving individual messages, you will continue to do so.

	The new list will be web-archived at
http://www.geocrawler.com/redir-sf.php3?list=savant-general

	When it is moved to SourceForge, the new Savant website will
contain a link to the web-based archive.
