I think both of your problems might have to do with the default setting of Savant. By default there is a box that, if left blank, will default to the computer you are on. This box also controls where the pages people will be served at (so if the name at the bottom of the window says something other than your IP address or DNS you might have this problem). For instance, if the text at the bottom says 192.0.0.2 then that means whenever someone tells Savant "Hey! I'm here! Send me something!" then Savant says "The file you want is at 192.0.0.2/index.html" Of course, the other computer, having no clue what Savant is talking about, can't find 192.0.0.2. You have to tell Savant (and thus the little box on the first config screen) that the pages that it serves are from "my.dns.or.ip.here" so that whenever someone yells at Savant wanting files that Savant says "The file you want is at my.dns.orip.here/index.html" and everything is served up peachy. This also means that if for some reason your IP changes and you've manually configured it then Savant will send everyone to the bad IP and no files will be served. :) Oh, and yes, Savant works under DHCP...you just have to make sure Savant is sending people to the right place. |
