Here's an incomplete list of the features added to Saskatoon, taken straight from our DONE.txt. This may help you decide whether to download the zipped source package.
Please read the release notes for details:
The Saskatoon project has stalled out! However, we do plan to release source files before the end of July, hopefully with some notes for intrepid hackers who would like to pursue their own fork of Smultron. Watch this space.
It's been a while since our last update, but we're still plugging away and closing in on a public release. A reminder: for earliest notice of releases, sign up for the announcement list.
Saskatoon now supports two new drag-and-drop behaviors: drag text to the document list to create an untitled document with that text; drag a URL from Safari to the document list to create an untitled document containing the HTML source of that page.
We've posted a few screen grabs that show some of the new features, including the shell drawer and text transforms, as well as some of the subtler interface changes. Note the complete absence of brushed metal!
Thanks to the fabulous developers of iTerm, a GPL terminal program for OS X, we're having an easy time adding our "Shell Drawer" feature. Look for a screenshot in the next few days.
We just got confirmation from Apple that the creator code "SASK" has been allocated to Saskatoon. One more miniscule step toward legitimacy...
We're getting lots of good email from interesting Mac people who have code, skills, interface mockups, and ideas to contribute. Thanks! It's great to see all this interest.
There's still a lot to do, but we've succeded in adding a number of desired features -- see the teaser screenshot on the Home Page. We've also fixed many bugs. Release date for a public beta release is now being discussed!
We've switched to Subversion for source code management -- so any lingering files you may see in the CVS browser here are very likely out of date.
We've started work on Saskatoon, a Cocoa coder's editor based on Smultron by Peter Borg. If you're interested in being a developer (now) or a tester (later), send e-mail to one of the project admins.
