..but until other muster up some courage, it's going to be a lot of "me talking to myself" :-).
Just so nobody thinks I've disappeared, here are a few recent changes in the code. Not much has changed as far as gameplay is concerned, so don't feel compelled to download the latest release.
I'm going to try getting the in-game message console set up properly, and then concentrate on gameplay. Once either of those are added, you may want to test the new version.

After a bit of tweaking and finding out some limits of sourceforge development (e.g., no outgoing connections to port 12394 are allowed, and some proggies like ppmtojpeg are not on the server) and coding around these, I've hacked together some preliminary metaserver (a.k.a. slot server, a.k.a. game server) code. It's got a long way to go though.
Right now, you can hit "F2" in the game, and it'll try to contact the slot server to register your game. Every time you want this listing updated (FOR NOW), you'll have to hit F2 again. Eventually I'd like to have this automated, so that viewers can see when games are shut down.... read more
Okay, so you can actually die now. Sure, it's nothing fancy, but at least it should give you the thrill of actually having defeated someone. No matter how easy it was to do so. :) Also, you should be able to see all players' in-game health.
