SOFIA 2.3 released with Hibernate and DHTML components

The Salmon Open Framework for Internet Applications. SOFIA is an open source GUI and data access tool-kit for building high quality, database driven, web based applications in Java. SOFIA 2.3 adds these new features: Dynamic HTML Rich Client, Hibernate Integration, and support for Eclipse 3, IntelliJ 4.5, and Dreamweaver MX 2004.

Dynamic HTML Rich Client:

If you don't want to write applets, complex JavaScript or spend a fortune on closed-source proprietary tools, but still want a browser based rich client user interface, you can use SOFIA's new DHTML components for things such as: drop down or popup calendars, calculators and search boxes , web data grids with scroll bars, nested reports with row folding and desktop style table row selection. That's in addition to the rich set of existing components such as navigation bars, trees/tree tables and calendars, as well as high end business components for SCRUD (Search,Create, Read, Update, Delete) and reporting. And if your development does require database driven applets, SOFIA supports those as well. ... read more

Salmon LLC renames The JADE Open Framework to SOFIA

Salmon LLC is pleased to announce the latest release of SOFIA, The Salmon Open Framework for Internet Applications. SOFIA 1.3 is the latest version of the product previously known as The JADE Open Framework. We decided to change the name after it came to our attention that there were several software products with names similar to ours. Also, the vendor of one such product contacted us and insisted we change our name. It seemed counter productive to fight over a name that was causing confusion anyway and so weve decided on a new name: SOFIA, short for: The Salmon Open Framework for Internet Applications.... read more

Salmon LLC announces new licensing terms for SOFIA!

So far in the two months since we released SOFIA (formerly know as JADE) we have gotten quite a bit of positive feedback from the open source community. The biggest complaint we have had is that SOFIA is under the GNU General Public License and so you can't distribute it freely in commercial projects that aren't open source.

We were planning to add some new language to the license, but some folks pointed out that we couldnt add terms to the GPL and have it still be the GPL. So we instead created a second license for SOFIA. Here is how it works:... read more
