There's only 10 organisations who have been selected this year, so this is a very high honour! Chase is an intern here at NLM who has used the tool for annotation. Ajay is the tool's programmer. I'll be editing the spreadsheet further to specify mentor coverage as it becomes known. BTW, we're dropping the conjectured "document ImageStat" task, since most of that has to be done in advance for the GCI students. Pat - ImageStat shares some backend db structures with Vesuvius/PL, and so works in terms of "events" (like disaster events). Each 3-4 hour task for GCI would be a separate event, i.e., "GCI1", "GCI2", etc. We would set up each such event with PL admin, then copy over the corresponding batch of images (this is a zipfile import hack and a bit tedious; room for improvement here). Before all that, partitioning the image corpus into task-sized chunks for zipping can be done by a script, so shouldn't be too bad. The thinking is that we would start with 10 such tasks (maybe trickled out the first week until we get our sea legs) and anticipate adding 10 tasks per week, more or less as demand and our capabilities dictates. Besides the work in creating a task, there's the work of evaluating each completed task in a way that is fair, convincing, timely, and not onerous for us. Tasks should be unique to the extent possible. No pointers to "fix a bug from this list" and a pointer to Trac - Google said specifically that they did not want this.... individual items on the tracker should be screened for appropriateness and a unique task entered on the spreadsheet with a link to the specific ticket on trac. For ImageStat - can these be broken down by a code or numbering system - i.e. complete batch 1-600; batch 601-1200; 1201-1800, etc.? ImageStat testing tasks at the outset should number no more than 10 to start as we can add more and adjust numbers if these prove too time consuming. Sorry it is extra work but it makes a difference to Google and to the participants in the contest. Tasks should be unique to the extent possible. No pointers to "fix a bug from this list" and a pointer to Trac - Google said specifically that they did not want this.... individual items on the tracker should be screened for appropriateness and a unique task entered on the spreadsheet with a link to the specific ticket on trac. For ImageStat - can these be broken down by a code or numbering system - i.e. complete batch 1-600; batch 601-1200; 1201-1800, etc.? ImageStat testing tasks at the outset should number no more than 10 to start as we can add more and adjust numbers if these prove too time consuming. Sorry it is extra work but it makes a difference to Google and to the participants in the contest.
