johan, > I like the new zipped grid feature, but I wonder if the extension name > can not be shorter. > It is now .s-sgrd-z . I'd rather fancy something like .sgrdz . ...this for sure is a point one could discuss in various directions. the decision for this naming scheme has been made to define a unique extension for native saga file formats, that immediately and transparently says what file type it represents. the first two letters 'sg' tell that it's a saga format after the '-' a three letter combination follows that specifies the data type. and if it is a compressed file '-z' is added. this is currently implemented for sg-grd-z = compressed grid sg-gds = grid collection sg-gds-z = compressed grid collection sg-pts = point cloud sg-pts-z = compressed point cloud it might be followed in future by file formats for tin ('sg-tin') and vector data ('sg-shp'). > Is anyone planning to add support for this to gdal? the compressed versions are simply the uncompressed files zipped into one file. therefore it should not be too complicated to add gdal support for compressed saga grids. best wishes, olaf |
