#310 dummy grid
Dear all,
with the procedure "Geoprocessing>Grid>Grid system>create a grid system" I produce my grid system, from a shape file, but I get always only dummy and no elevation as variable. But elevation is the source for my further calculations. How can I replace elevatioin instead of dummy.

Hi Kurt,
where do you expect your elevation information to come from? Is this information contained in the shapefile, e.g. as point elevations or contour lines?
The tool is thought to provide a "template" grid with a designated grid system. It is not thought to interpolate an elevation raster. There are other tools available for that, but please tell us first what kind of elevation data you have as input.

The source file has the following construction

4472514.031 5360642.846 481.22
4472519.027 5360642.65 481.54
4472524.023 5360642.454 482.11
4472529.019 5360642.259 482.52
This shape file (ESRI Arc GIS) was then uploaded in SAGA. In the next
step the grid system has been build (with "Geoprocessing>Grid>Grid
system>create a grid system").
Instead of Dummy grid I need the variable "Elevation".
My problem, I cannot introduce the column elevation.

Hi Kurt,
ok, thanks - so you have points with elevation attribute. Have a look at the following tool libraries, they provide different interpolation methods to create a surface from points:
Library Grid Gridding
Library Spline Interpolation
Which approach is best suited depends on your point distribution.
A simple one is, for example, Inverse Distance Weighted
A more sophisticated one is, for example, Multilevel B-spline
Volker, thank you, but interpolation is not my intention. Only the elevation data from the 5*5 m raster of the shape file is important for me.

Ok, but your sample points are not evenly distributed in a 5m stepping. So maybe you look for a way to simply burn these values in a 5x5m raster. Then have a look at the Shapes to Grid tool.
