When I play a multichannel DSD file , the VU meter of foobar displays the volume of the FL, FR, FC, LFE, RL and RR channels as expected. When I assign the ASIO strips of my DAC in the ASIO Channel Mapping Editor to respectively Left, Right, Center, LFE, Surrond Left, Surround Right, the sound of the RL and RR appear through the ASIO channels that were assigned for Center and LFE.
So, although the VU-meter seems to recognize the correct channel of a multi-channel DSD recording, the ASIO Channel Mapping Editor seemingly does not.

Oh, it's illustrated in the picture with foobar 2000, 1.6, 32-bit (portable) version, with DSD Transcoder 1.2.0, and DSD over DoP (to E-MU PCIe 1616m using its 32-bit drivers: So, Yes it can play DSD for those who did not know that. I don't know why E-MU/Creative kept that a secret when they introduced this -meanwhile legacy- device more than 15 years ago ;- )

Update: I think I found the cause what I did wrong. In the Playback/Output settings I had the Device on "ASIO : DSD Transcoder (DoP/Native)", and changing that to "ASIO : DSD Transcoder (DoP/Native) - my channel mapping" caused the right ASIO channels being used, so no mismatch anymore.

I tested a bit further with foobar2000 1.6, 1.6.18 and 2.24.3 (all 32 bit versions). With the 1.6-series I was able to get the signal recognized by the 1616m DAC for the Tools/SACD Output Mode "DSD+PCM" and for just "PCM" (where I then get other info in the line at the bottom of foobar then). For just "DSD" I get no sound though.
With the 2.24.3 version, only output for PCM succeeds. ("DSD+PCM" when set to 44100 causes error "Unrecoverable playback error: Could not query channel information" and DAC signaling it needs other session settings for another (176.4 kHz) Sample Rate. When I do that, foobar2000 error "Unrecoverable playback error: Device channel index out of range" pops up when I start playing a DSD64 file.

So I wonder if with the foobar2000 1.6 series the DoPped signal is really a wrapped SDS signal, or just a wrapped PCM signal. (Will try with another DAC that certainly cannot handle SDS with the build in DAC chip it has...)

    Regards, ajh
