$ gdb --args sablevm Main
(gdb) break JNI_CreateJavaVM
(gdb) r
(gdb) list

works for me on the Sable systems with gdb 6.0 and gcc 3.3.2 (I had to 
install these).

Maybe it's some kind of path problem.  There is a big gdb 6.0 manual 
that might help.
