It will work if you set CPPFLAGS before calling configure. CPPFLAGS=3D'-DLIBFFIBUG' export CPPFLAGS then ./configure etc. Note that if it is defined on x86, it will not work and it will produce the same error so it should be defined only when compiling on ppc.
