Dear Sir,
I saw your book on DOS with which RX DOS is made available.
Basically I want to create 3 versions of the DOS OS-> Regular Home use( Arvind RED-DOS), Business use(Arvind BLUE-DOS) and Gaming (Arvind GREEN-DOS). The theming and styling will be different for all 3 OS's.
I can show you the website where I would be selling this- actually I would be selling this in 3 versions- one is a Home OS (more colorful looking apps) and a Business OS (more plain but with simple animated backgrounds-> like the ones we find in Business Powerpoint presentations) and the third is a Gaming OS.
I also propose to make a 3D Game Engine for the Gaming Version of the OS -> using either GDI or more likely GDI PLUS. Also, it should support DOSBOX out of the box anyway.
I will also make a browser and other apps for all 3 OS's. It will support HTML4.01 and CSS2.1.
Why do I wish to charge for it? Because I will actively support it like any commercial grade OS. I will also be making a BSD Unix based more modern OS that uses Java 5. (Java 5 was released around 2006 end). The DOS based OS will target very old PCs of upto Windows 2000/ME. The new OS will target the newer PCs post 2000-2003 year onwards.
As far as I know, I can use the code of the book directly in any type of commercial project, however as a matter of decency, I was delighted to see your project here. That is the reason I am writing this Ticket to you. I also understand that I cannot use the code in the SourceForge project in a commercial project without giving away my code due to the GPL License restrictions. I understand that the code is more advanced and covers more recent devices etc/-> the RX DOS Sourceforge project that is? While the book code is much more old? That is not a problem as I will be using the code made available in the book!
I just wanted to thank you for the amazing book you have written on DOS!! That is the reason for this post I am writing to you today!
Please let me know what you think. If you can give me your permission/blessing to use the book's RX DOS code as I have outlined above, I would be extremely grateful and count myself lucky to get your blessing!
Lastly, I would be grateful to get any blessings/advice/guidance you may have for me.
Yours sincerely,
Arvind.
