Layout.iter.next_line! and ascent on Pango::Rectangle disappeared post pango version 3.1.1

My program stopped working following an update and a bit of investigation
finds these symbols disappeared after 3.1.1.  Is this intentional? I've
looked for any kind of deprication message but can't find any. For the
moment I'm just locking the production environment to 3.1.1 but I'd like to
stay on head.
