I found and edited a stones-recording from pdsounds.org http://nothingdoesntsuck.googlepages.com/rock.ogg I think it's good for the iron (it's iron, right? or was it stone? ^^) and gold resources.

Thanks, mate! Sounds good, I'll add this sound and commit tomorrow!

      Yes, it's iron. :)

Got a recorder. Recorded some metal on metal. http://nothingdoesntsuck.googlepages.com/2008_02_23-stonemetal.zip

It would be cool if one of these would be randomly chosen each time a unit hits the ground.. wav is btw probably more useful for sounds, as it needs no decompiling

by decompiling I mean decoding -_-

Oh, I agree, having random sounds played (or even sequential sounds) is a must; I've been trying to figure out for the last month or so how I'd implement that, along with having artwork choices for units (I want to add *all* the tree artwork). I think I may have an answer, we'll see.

And while true that .WAV files have less overhead in CPU, I've got to keep them compressed for size. The metal sounds are small, but even a 10-second clip gets pretty large, and I've got to keep the package size down. I once released a package with a font that allowed non-latin langauges, and turned a 1MB package into a 20MB package. Besides, on modern CPUs, the OGG to sound translation's a relatively small hit. :)

So, wile I'm working on the new units, I'll also be working on adding random action sounds. Thanks again, mate!

Hey, all. Since the unit art upgrades aren't going *quite* as smoothly as I'd like, I've added all the metal mining sounds qubodup's created and added them to the game, and the game now will play each sound randomly. Please check it out in SVN and tell me if it works for you! :)

No, it doesn't work. rev.  191

the sounds aren't in the svn btw.

    • Iwan Gabovitch (qubodup)

ok my fault, didn't realize you reorganized the svn structure ^^

ok it works. the sounds aren't that good, I equalized volume between them and added the rock-crumbling sound to each of them (variations of it) Plz replace, and remove rock.ogg form the list, as it's standing out from the others too much.

If you prefer the unmixed stonemetal sounds but want them louder, here they are:

Nope, the new clips sound great. And.....these new sounds will cap off version 0.1.4; the unit sprite rework is not going well, so that's going to be held off until version 0.1.5. In fact, most of v0.1.5 will be spent working on artwork to add some bleedin' content into this game, already, yeah? :)
