I'm just starting out here with RSSOwl. I have installed version 2.05 in
Slackware Linux 13.1. I've imported feeds, and rssowl has updated them. And I
then go to read a feed and get this error
"RSSowl was unable to create a browser for reding new. Please read the FAQ"
So I go to the FAQ, where it addresses that error message with this advice...
"Try turning off your firewall for a moment (while not being connected to the
internet) to see if its working then. If the firewall is the reason, configure
it to allow connections to 127.0.0.1 on port 8795. "
Well, I'm using wireless internet in the local library, and all my other apps
are happy. And I've turned iptables off ( iptables -F ), so there is no
firewall impediment there. I imagine that I am behind a router that blocks
incoming connections like those used by bittorrent. But elsewise, I don't
figure that it is obviously an internet problem.
So I'm sure that there is an answer. It'd be nice to get RSSOwl going, so I
can do my feedreading in Linux instead of XP. Help anyone?
Adding debug info to the above...
After opening RSSOwl and then getting the error message, the error log is:
Where the RSSOwl configuration is :
And my list of installed packages is :
Can you try running "setenv MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME /usr/lib/mozilla" before
I'm pretty sure now the "unable to create browser" error was because I didn't
have xulrunner installed. Myself to blame. But RssOwl is going fine now
