No

I'm using a Logitech MX700 mouse which has
forward/back button on the side. Neither button work
when in RSS Bandit.

It works fine elsewhere.

I looked at that article and unless I'm mistaken, it seems to
imply that the forward and back buttons can be mappend to
the ALT+Left Arrow and ALT+Right Arrow.

Those key combos work so I'm not sure why the mouse
doesn't work. I need to see if I can get my hands on a
    similar mouse.

According to the logitec faq article this should be enough to
    get it work.
Phil: Before your fixes the keys were not working anyway...

Oh. That's interesting. I didn't realize my change fixed that.
    Well that's a nice side-effect.

I added a fix for it, but cannot test it. Can someone provide
some feedback, if it works now?

This works with 1.6.0.3 (SVN) (if you map the mouse buttons to ALT-LEFT and ALT-RIGHT navigation keys for IE)
