equal tab title sizes

Is there a way or an option I am missing that would allow me to have all of
the tab titles be a uniform size and not scroll off the side of the screen? I
want the horizontal tabs to be ELLIPSIZED the same way that vertical tabs are.
Also, I always want to see all of the tabs on the screen. I never want them to
scroll off to the side of the screen. Is there an option for these two things?

What you're asking for was the old behaviour. I changed it because the
ellipsizing was sometimes a nuisance but the new behaviour isn't without
problems and has caused a nasty bug <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
    bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=601828
    > so I'll change it back.

I've had to compromise slightly. The scroll arrows will still appear if there
are too many tabs to fit within the current window width, but because their
text is ellipsized you can fit plenty in before that happens. I had to do this
really, otherwise adding too many tabs causes unwanted window resizing and I
can't get vte to deal with this correctly instead of getting very confused
    about its geometry.

I also had to make it so that if there's only one tab and the tab bar is
always visible, that tab takes up the entire width of the window. Without
doing this either tabs always take up the miminum space possible with
ellipsizing, which makes the labels useless, or if I try to make a single tab
a fixed size, attempting to make them homogeneous and ellipsizable after that
    fails for some reason.
