Version 0.10 of the shared MIME database is out now: http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/shared-mime-info.html There have been changes to the format of the generated magic files, but that doesn't affect us. Some new types have been added and the update command performs more error checking. If packagers send me new RPMs, etc, I can put them on the site. Please report any bugs... Changes: * Much better validation of input files. * Added note about the use of extended attributes to store the MIME type. * Ensure that all changes to generated files happen atomically. * Change to half-text, half-binary format to make parsing the magic file much easier. * Make it really clear that user prefs don't go in the database. * Require libxml 2.4.0 (not sure if it's needed, but older versions seem a little buggy). * Fix problem where copying nodes lost the namespace (workaround for libxml bug). * Added DTD to freedesktop.org.xml. * Spec was confused about whether a match type was an attribute or element name. Settled on attribute and updated XML (makes the DTD easier this way). * Glob pattern for TGIF files. * Added application/x-cd-image (requested by Stefano Peluchetti). * Added text/x-uri (text/uri-list is used for something else). * Added more extensions for powerpoint (Stefano Peluchetti). * Marked AIFF as Amiga/Mac (Marcin Juszkiewicz), not just Amiga. * Added *.xsl glob (*.xslt was already allowed) and added xhtml MIME type (requested by Vincent Lefevre). -- Thomas Leonard http://rox.sourceforge.net ta...@ec... ta...@us... This is not very good IMHO, as I've never seen such file in 10 years of multi-platform computer experience. On the other side, .dat has been used for many-many years, even before the DAT existence for data files. For instance in Linux, scigraphica exports to this format. Matlab on Windows/Linux/Unix also can export to this IIRC. So why not pushing towards this mime-type database change? On a completely unrelated topic, I've compiled a Rox-Filer 1.3.7 rpm for Mandrake 9.0, it is located at: http://olivier.ripoll.free.fr/rpms/ Unfortunately, it installs in /usr/appsdir as the previous one (1.3.6) Regards, Olivier. |

Where? It seems to be under 'video/mpeg' here. Possibly still the wrong place, but... Application/octet-stream is probably the best type, but that's not very useful. -- Thomas Leonard http://rox.sourceforge.net ta...@ec... ta...@us... I have packaged shared-mime-info 0.10 into RPM packages for Red Hat Linux= 8.0. They are available at http://uber.com.br/romildo Regards, Romildo --=20 Prof. Jos=E9 Romildo Malaquias ro...@ub...
