strace is attached, it appears to freeze on a call to fcntl64 and eventually returns with -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable).  Of course... it then proceeds to list the directory like nothings wrong, as i described already.  an smbfs mount of a different share does NOT produce this behavior.

Use 'strace rox -n' to see what it's doing.
