Rovio History

  • October 29, 2008 - WowWee releases Rovio (news release). Also introduced in 2008 were Bladestar, FLytech Bat, Dragon and Fairy, ChatterBots, Femisapien, and Cubs.

  • October 13, 2009 - WowWee announces upgrades to Rovio firmware and new headlight accessory for low light situations (news release). Other 2009 releases by WowWee include JoeBot, Roborover, and the Cinemin projector.

  • January 26, 2010 - WowWee releases Firmware 5.03 (stable)

  • approx. August 2010 - WowWee discontinues Rovio product, no longer offers parts nor support.

  • February 2012 - Rovio open source (software & Hardware) project is created.

(this can be filled in with further significant events. For a while, WowWee ran a 'Test drive Rovio' over the Web; other dates would include firmware updates, the release of the API, and the source code release)
