Most Desktops have faster CPU speeds and more RAM,
too. Even newer lower-priced laptops have CPU only in
the 1.5 Ghz for speed. If the laptop is haa slower
CPU, you may want to either compile your own real-time
kernel, or locate a pre-compiled real-time kernel with
support for all the hardwares on that laptop. There
are also a few configuration steps after installing a
real-time kernel. If you tell us what distribution
and version that you use for the laptop, someone here
could probably help with more specifics steps to
Realtime kernel configuration changes in
/etc/security/limits.conf and /etc/sysctl.conf does
make a lot of difference even on my 2.5 GHz desktop
and the built-in soundcard.
