I haven't played around with VST, DSSI-VST much. This is just grasping for straws. It seems the DSSI-VST thread/process stopped responding, or take too long to respond to the DSSI-VST host. So the host gives up.
You may want to see if you can reproduce the problem at will which may help others to reproduce it, always helpful step toward identify and fix it. Once you can reproduce it, try to stop, or kill other apps including number of instruments to try to narrow down the contributing factors.
If it is a sporadic thing, it will be much harder to track down.
Take notes of CPU load, memory swap size to see if those may slow down the system overall response time, contributing to your problem, also.
I don't remember a way to check for thread/process priority. But if you can, check that, and see if you can boost the priority a little bit more to see if that helps, but probably no more than GUI priority, or your GUI desktop may seem to hang.
