Hi all, I'm a new user of Rosegarden and I'm new in the List. Yesterday I built the latest release (4-0.9.6) on a SuSE 9.0 . = Rosegarden runs fine , but I have Problems to get everything = synchronized. First I tried using Rosegarden as Jack-Transport-Master and the = Hydrogen-Drummachine as slave. Start/Stop works, but the audio stream is = broken. When using the latest Ardour-version as Jack-Transport-Master, = Hydrogen is syncronized good. So I tried to set Rosegarden in Jack-Transport-Slave mode and use Ardour = as Master, but Rosegarden will not work as a slave ... :-) Is the jack-sync feature implemented well, or is it a bugette ? What = more I have to do to set Rosegarden in slave-mode ? P.S. Another problem: In the QJackCtl connections page where the current = Midi connections are shown, everything is flashing after rosegarden was = connected to jack., and I can't connect or disconnect any midi-route. A = bugette ? Many thanks help. regards, Markus |

The JACK transport support in Rosegarden 0.9.6 is based on an old version of the JACK transport API and does consequently does not work at all well -- indeed it was never even completed, as the JACK transport API was rewritten while we were still working on it. Current CVS versions of Rosegarden (since just a few days ago) have much better support for the current JACK transport API, as well as a better audio subsystem in general, so I would recommend getting a copy from anonymous CVS instead. If you do that, I'd like to hear how you get on with it. I have used it with a tiny number of other JACK transport applications and I know there are some remaining glitches, but it should work in general -- with the caveat that it does not yet send timebase master information (bar/beat/tick etc). We'll be doing another release quite soon when we've ironed out a few more bugs and done some things like connect up the remaining buttons on the new mixer window. Maybe a week or two. Chris |

Hi Chris, > I would recommend getting a > copy from anonymous CVS instead. If you do that, I'd like to hear > how you get on with it. I have tried to compile rosegarden with the cvs-checkout from yesterday and today. I get compiler errors in Configuration.h:170: error: exception handling disabled ... Do I need to prepare my system with something ? I have used a standard SuSE 9.0 installation. In which file I need to enable evt. ' -fexceptions ' ? I could build the latest release, so I wonder how to fix the problem with the cvs-version. regards, Markus |

I have try to test jack transport implementation in RG and it seems to work. At least what have been implemented seems to work. I can start RG from ardour at different start time and the synch seems ok. bpm change does not work but I suppose it is normal. I have noticed a small bug in that last CVS, when I run jack with the real-time option (-R) RG does not connect to jack. In the rosegarden configuration, sequencer submenu, it is sayed "MIDI ok, No audio". RG is visible in qjackctl connection list but when trying to make a connection, I get the message : > cannot connect ports owned by inactive clients; "rosegarden" is not active This append only when starting jack with -R option whenever I run as normal user (with jackstart) or as root (jackd).
