Oh, yes, sure, that was not what I was trying to tell. Actually, I use
MIDI also for those purposes, and it was just a way to explain my
thoughts about MIDI messages as "information containers".

I think Rosegarden is able to do that as any other sequencer, the fact
is probably one will have to make some configurations, filtering and so
on, and finally finding a soft (QLC is the one, I think) able to use
MIDI and to "convert" it into DMX.
