When I started the original 1.7.3 release, I asked those of you with commit
access to commit your changes to the stable branch only. Some of you did,
some of you didn't.
We appreciate your efforts as translators, because we know what a thankless
and unpleasant job it can be. However, this whole situation caused me quite
a headache trying to decide which version of what translation was the most
current. You'd think that wouldn't be a big problem, but it is. Every time
messages.sh gets run, the files in different source trees get scrambled
relative to one another so it is impossible to compare them with diff. I had
to use the total number of translated/untranslated/fuzzy strings and make my
If I missed any existing updates, I can pull them out of the old stable_1_7
tree, which has been abandoned but not deleted.
I ask everyone to take a final look around at your translation starting with
the pre-release tarball at:
Make your updates, and then email me your .po files directly. Do not commit
anything yourself, even if you have commit access. That way I can be sure of
what is up to date without trying to watch two or three different things at
the same time.
Since you have to download the tarball anyway, translators, why not be testers
too? :) I really seriously don't want to have to see a 1.7.4. The future
is soon, and I'm fed up with having to juggle this many balls. I want to get
the 1.7.x ball safely on the floor, and leave it there. That can't happen if
we get stuck having to do a 1.7.4 to fix the critical bugs in 1.7.3 nobody
discovered because nobody actually tested the damn thing again.
