I have been using the Instrument Parameters controls to set pan and
volume values for each channel. There is a problem, though. When I open
an existing Rosegarden file, these settings are shown in the Instrument
Parameters for each channel, but no MIDI events corresponding to these
settings are sent when the file is played. To get the settings to take
effect, I have to slightly alter each control before I play the piece,
so that Pan and Volume MIDI events are sent to my synth.
The same remarks apply to the Sustain, Chorus, Reverb and Expression
controls, but I have not implemented those yet.

I've had a couple of similar reports in the last few months, and don't doubt
that it's all really true. However, when I tried to investigate this, all I
could come up with was this report here:
I was dealing with volume in the report, but pan was the same. When I hooked
Rosegarden up to KMidiMon, I saw the volume changes, but my synth never did.
I have no explanation for that. I can't even begin to guess. It would
probably take a real MIDI guy to even think seriously about this one, and our
best real MIDI guy, Pedro (who also wrote KMidiMon) has been tied up with
other things for some while now, and has no plans to contribute anything in
the current release cycle.
So I just have to leave it all dangling, I'm afraid. MIDI is not my bailiwick
at all, and if somebody can do something with this issue, it's not me.
