I don't have a midi device, but installed Rosegarden to use as a
notation editor/playback device. My needs are humble, as I'm writing
out mostly simple fiddle tunes. There's a few things I can't figure out
in RG though. First, how do I enter repeat signs? Fiddle tunes usually
come with an A and B part, each of which is repeated twice.
Also, is there a way to enter ending one/ending two 'frames'?
How do I export the RG notation editor output to Lilypond? (Or can I
even do that?)
I've tried using NoteEdit instead, but prefer a page view instead of
single staff view. It also seems to easily get confused and do erratic

Repeat signs come automatically when segments repeat, so what you want to do
is draw two segments...
Say the A part is one bar, repeated three times, and the B part is the same.
That means the total composition wants to be six bars long. Go to
Composition -> Change Composition Start and End, and change the end bar to 6.
Now use the pencil tool to draw a segment filling bar 1, and another one
filling bar 4. Switch to the arrow tool and shift+click on each segment so
they are both highlighted. Now go to the Segment Parameters box, and click
the Repeat [x] checkbox. Now both segments are repeating, and repeat signs
will show up in the notation editor.

This is more involved. You need a recent version of Rosegarden, 1.4.0 or
later, I think. You need to insert LilyPond directives using the Text tool,
and the segments need to be configured a certain way to get everything to
come out right. It's a bit fiddling. Please see the example file
lilypond-alternative-endings.rg to see how to set this up.

File -> Export... -> Export to LilyPond, or you can preview/print with File ->
Preview with LilyPond
The export takes place at a global document level, not a notation view level.
There are various options for merging staffs with the same name, exporting
only selected segments, and so forth. Especially with Rosegarden 1.5.0.
