I have just rewired my studio/computers to enable more scope but now I'm
stumped by the software. currently rosegarden plays no sound at all
except for when ardour and jack is running then I can hear even the
sounds from my midi keyboard. However ardour won't record any sound and
rosegarden crashed when importing .wavs or hydrogen files. Also there
are more midi devices in rosegarden than there should be, at least I
think that there should only be my sound card which my midi keyboard is
connected to on midi in and out and phono in.
I would like my system to play noises from phono in through phono out
with the abilty to record them (so i can sequence data and then mix down
all midi data to an audio track).
does any body use either protux or ardour for multi track audio
I have an m-audio audiophile24/96 running the alsa ice1712 driver and
I'm really confused

But I do have one of those.
It sounds like you're confused about how to route what where, and/or how to
control your mixer. Do you have envy24control installed?
On my rig, I have a Behringer Eurorack 1002 mixer with its outputs hooked to
the analog ins on this card, and I have the SPDIF outs hooked to a cheap
Wal-Mart home theater system. I leave the envy24control mixer set the same
way most of the time. Not sure how I actually have it set up at this moment.
