I am writing a HOWTO for the benefit of knoppix users
who want to utilize rosegarden21 which is included on
the knoppix LiveCD.
Since this is for the LiveCD users, upgrading to
rosegarden4 is not an option :-(
I figured out how to get /dev/sequencer working, so
now sndstat tells me my first device is "MPU-401 0.0
Midi interface #1" and I am able to get rosegarden to
output midi! :-)
However, I'm unable to get rosegarden21 to record any
midi notes. On my midi setup screen, it lists the
device as /dev/sequencer, and the record device (which
I cant modify) says (null device), then if I try to
record and check again, the record device says
"MPU-401 0.0 Midi interface #1" but no note events
got recorded into the track.
I know that all rosegarden21 users have upgraded to
rosegarden4, but if anybody remembers how to get this
working under v21, please share!

Isn't there an update option (Klik) now for Knoppix users? If that won't
work, would it not better to use your time to try and persuade Dr Knopper to
go with the latest version of RG, rather than one from the dinosaur age? The
current RG benefits from things like JACK and even the older version would
probably do best with a low-latency kernel - I don't think that's in Knoppix
If someone really wants to use a liveCD in this context for actual work, as
opposed to dabbling, Fervent Software's Studio-to-Go
(www.ferventsoftware.com) is IMHO the only option to consider. Based on my
tests here, it is well worth the money (note: I have no connection with FS
except that I use the disk!).
