I'm using Rosegarden for the first time and find that while playback works for
some MIDI files, other files result in:
"The Rosegarden sequencer process has exited unexpectedly. Sound and recording
will no longer be available for this session.
Please exit and restart Rosegarden to restore sound capability."
I have no MID hardware and use timidity -iA as a soft synth. Here are some
details of my software setup.
Rosegarden 4-0.9.91 (Using KDE 3.3.2 Level "a" unofficial build of SUSE)

How do I diagnose and fix the problem? Would it help if I uploaded the
offending MIDI files somewhere for someone to look at them?

Start the sequencer manually from a console (the name of the exec is
'rosegardensequencer'), then rosegarden itself from another console, with the
option '--existingsequencer'. In both consoles, make sure you export
KDE_DEBUG=1 before starting the execs. Once the sequencer crashes, you should
get a core file from which you can get a stack trace with gdb (see faq).
