I've had several things on my plate that I'd like to get to, but feel that I should set them aside and focus on the lack of progress dialog boxes.
I reviewed that existing and prior (glitchy) code we used for dialog boxes. I think I'd like to start a branch and give getting this going a try.
I'm thinking we should use QProgressBar and QProgressDialog. From what I'm seeing it looks like they should work. Am I missing something here, since it looks like the code was using QDialog before it was deactivated. This may have just been convenience during the port from KDE...I don't know.
Any words of warning or advice before proceeding would be nice.

What we've got now (in the code I commented out and/or deleted) was my attempt
to write a new API-compatible implementation of some old KDE class we no
longer have available. I started this after trying to untangle the complete
train wreck left after the port. This was really, really bad, but I'd have to
spend more time than I have digging through old revisions to try to paint you
a picture of the horrors I encountered with this.
Basically, it's all completely fucked, and you might do well to start from

Thanks for the input. From what I gathered, your input confirms my belief that this just needed a redo. I figured your work was a last ditch effort to make what came from the port work.
