Well, this is an interesting time, isn't it?
Chris has begun some work on the port, but it isn't at all obvious to me what,
if anything I could be or should be doing on that, so that whole thing is a
big hazy question mark at this point. Nothing appears likely to happen fast,
and Chris is obviously very busy with real life paying stuff again.
On the other hand, there has been some work on fixing bugs that might even be
critical enough to justify a 1.7.1 release, but that work has subsided, and
this place has been increasingly quiet since I stopped pushing to get 1.7.0
I'm fairly effective at pushing, but I have no real agenda to push at the
moment, and I'm not even really in a musical frame of mind these days.
So I think I'll just make it official and announce that I'm semi-officially
taking the summer off.

Isn't it! As you can judge, I've been rather busy elsewhere.

I've done nothing with it since I posted to the list about it on, um,
the 20th of May. I was rather hoping someone might respond to that
email saying "count me in!", but nobody did.
While I'm keen to get this work done, I'm simply not confident that
it's practical to even attempt it unless we can engage a few people
rather than just, well, one. Or none, given my current set of other
things to get done. I'll surely have more time for it at some point
before long, but the summer is never a great period for getting things
