Look at this. From a moment ago... Change to dark background, knobs kept old
background, and looked bad. Now I'm back to my standard close-to-stock
mostly-light-gray color scheme, and these knob backgrounds have suddenly
taken the background from the last change or so.
Weird. I can't seem to trigger the knobs to take a new background on demand,
and restoring/resizing/repainting the main window doesn't do it either.
Probably some tricky bug here, but it doesn't look like the knobs have some
kind of hard coded light background as I originally feared.

The knobs are drawn onto cached pixmaps by the widget code, because
drawing them afresh each time they move would be too expensive.
There's a cached pixmap for each position in each knob colour. They
won't regenerate when the background changes. You'll get a new pixmap
when you set the knob to somewhere it hasn't been before.
