It gets a little less clunky with use. I used it a pretty good bit. It's a very useful addition. > The thing is you want it both ways -- sometimes you want the velocity > from the notes you enter, sometimes you _really_ don't. None of that > is implemented yet. I guess the way to have it both ways would be with a config option somewhere. Maybe an icon toggle on a toolbar, maybe something in a dialog... Just a simple [x] Record Velocity type thing. Sure would make the current project easier. At least the current project can be done though. That's a big improvement compared to a year ago. > > Can I be cheap and try to continue to use the ens1371 > > I imagine it'll work okay, if you can put up with the not-so-great > sound quality. If you had IRQ weirdness too, that pretty well tears it. I thought it was my mobo (especially since the board finally died.) I'm pretty sure my xruns had something to do with the IRQ weirdness. > upgrade to an SB Live! is such a good idea -- it's a good card if > it's what you already have lying around, but if you don't, it might > be worth sticking to something else until you can afford a really Plus they're surprisingly not cheap. If I go local retail, I'm looking at close to $100 for one of those stupid things. I figured they'd be $20 by now. > nice one (e.g. I find my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 worlds better than > anything I've had before). Well, I don't think anything on earth will get me recording now. This machine just can't do what I want to do. I'm trying to use fluidsynth with a really good drum kit for percussion, and I don't have enough horsies under the hood to do even that much. If I throw another log onto this fire, I'll probably just make my CPU go on strike in protest. M-Audio Audiophile 2496... I'll start doing my homework. I definitely want something to work *properly*.
