On Tuesday 20 December 2005 06:32, Richard Cooper was like: > I don't know about this song I've been working on. =A0At first I liked it, > then I hated it, then I loved it, then I didn't like it, and now I think I > just want to vomit. =A0I tried to write a happy song, but it just sounds = so > depressing I want to shoot myself. =A0Maybe somebody can tell me where I = went > wrong: > > http://pj.nfshost.com/secret/nonsense/life_via_television.mp3 > > Honestly, I set out to write a happy song and that's what I end up with. I don't think you've given yourself a chance to go wrong yet. Creativity is= =20 like this, you set out to do one thing and end up with another. The main=20 reason this sounds less than happy is because you're using a lot of minor=20 chords, no bad thing in itself, but also because this is a rather simplisti= c,=20 bare-bones arrangement. If you add some hi-hat patterns and rhythm parts,=20 filling in the offbeats, you may find the mood lifts somewhat. It may also= =20 help to find ways of adding a little rubato, or human feel to the timings a= nd=20 velocities. It's a good tune, it just needs filling out a bit. :) =2D-=20 cheers, tim hall http://glastonburymusic.org.uk/tim |
