Forwarding to rg-user on behalf of the author. ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- Subject: A few questions about Rosegarden........... Date: Wednesday 17 Nov 2004 11:50 From: "Mike Rose" <mik...@uk...> To: ca...@al... Hello Chris Sorry I've emailed you directly rather than posting to the Rosegarden list as at the moment I am getting my posts fired back for some reason..something thinks my emails are Spam...any ideas would be most appreciated..I just don't know why I can't send an email to rosegarden-user@ - I've just tried emailing the rosegarden-user-admin@ and that also has been sent back to me undelivered today ..MMMM......I think the mail server thinks I am some spammer or something! If you could include these questions below on the next R.G mail post I would be really grateful. I am istill nvestigating why my mail is being sent back....it's probably something stupid on my part. PS Rosegarden is great.....so well thought out. Here are my various questions - thanks - Mike Rose: Hi there I recently installed Rosegarden and it's got a great interface and a nice feel - well done guys . I must admit it was hard work getting it all to work at first as I am a newbie to Linux ....many might have given up who were less experienced. It's worth it once you perserve though! I Was thinking, Is there any way I distributable CD could be built that (like Knoppix ) that someone could just bung into their PC where it runs a music distro and Rosegarden with all the plugs and copes with detecting variety of popular audio pci cards ( say audiophile 24/96 for example / Edirol UA20 USB ) ? I do appreciate hard disk recording needs a hard drive therefore one might install R.G to a hard drive ....it's just I think people would be more inclined to try it out if they didn't need to set up dual boot system. I've had a few problems in the past setting up dual boot and maybe it's me but I've had two installations go belly up when trying dual boot...it could be just back luck / knackered hard drives rather than anything to do with the Master Boot Record alteration e.t.c I I think your software deserves to be tried out on as many machines as possible - having a CD you could boot into Linux with R.G would be a great way of spreading the good word. I can see problems in this idea already ( i.e. NTFS/Fat compatibility ) so sorry if I am asking a dumb question that has already been covered in the past! I found it quite hard trying to understand what ALSA was / Jack....but I did get it working and it was very satisfying. Hopefully someone needs to write a review for Sound on Sound about Rosegarden when it releases v1. I also had an Edirol UA20 USB Midi / Audio interface I tried to get running with Rosegarden but never got it to work properly ( the midi side of it anyway - the audio worked ok)....in those situations it's a little difficult to know what to do to get help to sort it out ( mind you I didn't email you all ) - any tips on where I might look for sorting this problem out?. Has anyone got midi and audio working together on a USB external card (ie one box provides both midi and audio) ? I was using the Fedora Core 2 and Planet CCRMA installation at the time. In the end I went back to my Soundblaster live....... I am really impressed with all your efforts.....Rosegarden and the LADSPA plug ins are really good combination . I can see Rosegarden making inroads...you have the best interface of all the sequencers hands down. MIke ------------------------------------------------------- |
