I logged in as a user and the same thing happened again. I'm using the new Mandriva, only a fews days old. The good thing is my French has improved and I've sorted out my initial problem, before all this started.
Someone, maybe ought to speak with Mandriva?

Fonts won't have anything to do with it.

Running Rosegarden as root is a VERY BAD idea!  Never do this.

The command should work.  I use this all the time to check translations, and I
can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work.

Try this running as a user.

If that doesn't work, I'm going to suspect it has something to do with
modifications made by whoever made the package you're using, and that you
might need to install some extra packages from your distro to get this to
work.
