In the MIDI options, (auto) should be the default timer, not hrtimer. I struggled for 2 days trying to figure out why Rosegarden would not send MIDI notes when all other programs would before randomly discovering that setting this option to (auto) or "system timer" corrected this problem.

This goes to usability. While people like me will probably eventually figure it out, a lot of people would not. Plus, different systems use different timers (I have an rt-kernel that uses an rt clock, not hrtimer), so (auto) is simply a much better default option.

Auto is indeed supposed to be the default timer. I'm puzzled by this one.

I'm puzzled too. It's the default timer for me when I delete all my config stuff and start from factory. Something weird must be going on, but I have no idea what.

Auto is was and always shall be the default timer, and only one person in the world so far has ever experienced anything other than that being the case.

I don't know what to make of it. At the end of the day, I can't repeat it, so I can't fix it. I highly suspect it's some weird distro/environment-specific bug that's impossible to reproduce outside a carefully constructed laboratory.
