RocketControl Overview

RocketControl is a small project to develop an on board computer for a model water rocket.

Hardware in Use

It is using of the shelf hardware for the prototype:

Functions

The basic functions include:

  1. Automatic launch detect using an acceleration sensor
  2. Optional apogee detection with differential photo resistors (not implemented yet)
  3. Emergency timer if apogee detection fails
  4. Eject parachute by servo
  5. Show current state with LED blink rates
  6. Auto power off
  7. Optional serial status monitor for debugging

Project State

The Software has been tested on table top and seems to be working and practically usable. Due to the high weight of the prototype hardware (approx. 100 gramms including battery) I have not done any flight tests yet. I will look for a smaller Arduino as more lightweight hardware before starting flight tests.
